My Sourdough Journey

Our family dove into the world of sourdough in May 2023 and it has brought so much joy and delicious food into our lives! My circle of friends couldn’t stop talking about their starter and beautiful loaves of bread. I was intrigued! I checked out a bunch of books from my library and began my journey in understanding sourdough.

If you’ve ever researched sourdough, you know it can be overwhelming! I often learn best through visuals and watching others, so I turned to Instagram. I stumbled upon the Acts of Sourdough account and stayed up late that week to binge all of her videos. She made me feel like I could finally do it!

I accepted some starter from my friend to begin feeding and baking! My first few loaves were far from what they are now, but my family and I were in love with eating such fresh bread. I loved the simple ingredients and that we did it all on our own.

Then once my eyes were opened to all the discard recipes, I was hooked. Now we eat sourdough all week long – from toast to pancakes, pizza to muffins, the options are endless.

Learning about sourdough truly reignited my passion for being in the kitchen at a time when I was feeling completely burnt out. Burnt out with all the meal planning, grocery shopping, and providing food all day long. Sourdough got me excited to try new things and to it was so fun to have them be successful!
